One thing that I have never fully understood is why couples don’t choose to have one of their friends or relatives be the one to marry them. For most weddings finding a suitable minister or priest can be tricky and expensive when you don’t belong to a certain religion or wish to not have a religious ceremony. Many ministers require the couple to attend marriage courses, which is probably a good thing, but is on your dime.
Perhaps couples can think about the major decision they are making privately, or among friends or family who are willing to listen or counsel. Counseling IS a good thing – a couple should know exactly what they are getting in to and should always ask the hard questions before they pledge vows to one another. How many kids each other want to have, details about child rearing preferences, working out a financial/work agreement, ideas toward investing in a home or business, core values, etc.. There is a LOT to know about each other and whether or not it is the kind of life you will want to lead, but if you are really committed and ready for marriage than I don’t feel there is not always a reason to seek professional services. Do it on your own. Preparing for your wedding is half the fun!
! I want my wedding to be among close friends and family and have a very personal feel. I want to be standing up at the altar with my fiancé and my attendants and …. not some strange man or woman, but another dear friend who wants to share in our happiness. Imagine the thrill it would be to be the person who legally unites two good friends in marriage. That would be so cool! It is like Joey from Friends” in both Chandler and Monica’s wedding as well as Pheobes. It’s kind of cool that you would save yourself like, $800 in the process and not have to find yourself some stranger who shares your ideas of how your wedding should go. Your friend or relative would be so excited for you.. and that just carries on the cycle. I think it would be cool.
